- Dupuytren's Contracture-

  • Symptoms: Tightening of fascia in the hand that causes the fingers to bend downward into a flexed condition.  Causes functional disability and pain.
  • Cause of Symptoms: Dupuytren's Contracture is a thickening and shrinking of the layer of Fascia just beneath the underlying skin layer of the palm which in turn, pulls on the skin and on the fingers. Dupuytren's can cause lumps or dimples in the skin of the palm due to the tightening of the fascia, causing the fingers to bend downward into a flexed position at the MP, PIP and/or DIP joints. Note: Dupuytren's is often confused with Trigger Finger but involves a different process.  ( See Trigger Finger )
  • Treatment of Symptoms: FLEXTEND® may help reduce the symptoms of Dupuytren's Contracture by stretching and lengthening the overly tight, restrictive fascia covering the palm of the hand. Lengthening the fascia and underlying muscles causes the fingers to open (extend and abduct) in more normal fashion. FLEXTEND® also simultaneously strengthens the antagonist muscles in order to help maintain the length created from stretching the palmar fascia and underlying muscles.
